Junjie Ouyang is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Chemistry at Rutgers University–Newark, working under the supervision of Professor Huixin He. His research focuses on electrochemical clean-energy conversion and the controlled generation and transport of reactive hydrogen species through nanostructured membranes. He develops CNT/graphene membrane platforms that electrochemically generate highly active hydrogen atoms from water and transport them to remote sites, enabling more efficient and selective catalytic reactions, including electrified ammonia synthesis and conversion of petroleum- and biomass derived molecules without relying on hydrogen gas. His earlier work at Rutgers investigated proton- and lithium-ion-intercalation strategies for developing electrocatalysts for nitrogen reduction to ammonia and approaches to suppress competing hydrogen evolution. Junjie earned his M.S. in Chemistry from Rutgers University–Newark and holds a B.A. in Chemistry (ACS Certified) with a minor in Mathematics. As an NJEDA Clean Energy Fellow, he aims to advance scalable electrochemical technologies for sustainable chemical manufacturing and renewable-energy utilization.
