Nedgine Joseph is a Ph.D. candidate in Materials Science and Engineering at Rutgers University whose research supports clean nuclear energy through the safe immobilization of high-level radioactive waste. Her work focuses on overcoming the low solubility of molybdenum in conventional borosilicate waste glasses. As an NJEDA Clean Energy Fellow, she will investigate how boron enhances molybdenum incorporation in phosphate-based glasses. By combining advanced spectroscopy with atomistic simulations, she aims to identify the structural mechanisms governing this behavior and guide the development of durable waste glasses with higher waste loadings, potentially reducing disposal volumes and costs.
